Originally a Native American settlement, it later became a hub for timber and fishing industries in the late 19th century.

Growing up there in the 60's and 70's it meant  "Piper Boarding" at Dash Point State Park, fishing from the dock, and Janet's Table Supply.  It was small town America.   Little League, The Salmon Bake and Dock Dinner,  Art's Hamburgers, The Hillbillies -vs- The Beach Bums and Bouncing Betty.  If you know, you know.
