the story
Artist Daniel Blue, founder and lead singer of the alt psych band Motopony, stumbled upon the 253 Heart during a exploration of graffiti techniques. His experiment involved an unconventional approach: drawing the numbers 253 without lifting his pen. In a stroke of creative serendipity, the lines converged to form a heart shape. This accidental masterpiece became a symbol of his profound affection for Tacoma, a city he regards as family.
When he moved to the 206, he entrusted the hearts journey to friend and manager, Steve Naccarato. With Steve’s efforts, the design has found its way onto cars, jewelry, clothing, guitars, 7 Seas Pilsner, billboards, hats, magazine covers, original art, skateboards, rock star tour bus, and some pilings in Puget Sound.
Beyond its visual charm, the 253 Heart carries a deeper significance. Collaborating with local artists, it serves as a vehicle for charitable endeavors, raising funds for community initiatives. Through this partnership, the heart symbolizes not just a love for a place, but a commitment to its well-being and prosperity.
